We are an international group of scholars dedicated to the integration of the history of science and the philosophy of science.
The Committee for Integrated HPS was established in 2006. Our main activity so far has been the biennial conference series “&HPS” on integrated History and Philosophy of Science. Seven successful conferences have been held so far, in Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Bloomington, Athens, Vienna, Edinburgh, and Hannover.
The 9th conference of Integrated HPS (&HPS9) will be held at the University of South Carolina, March 16-18, 2023. Keynote speakers are Alisa Bokulich (Boston University) and Gregory Radick (University of Leeds).
The 8th conference of Integrated HPS (&HPS8) was hosted by Virginia Tech and was held online. The online proceedings of the &HPS8 conference, including poster and paper presentations and author profiles, can be found here.
The pre-print and journal publications of Integrated History and Philosophy of Science (&HPS) since 2007 have been made available on a new comprehensive website. Work on the website was generously supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
We continue to mourn the death of Professor Jean Gayon, who was a key member of our Committee and a great inspiration to numerous scholars and students of history and philosophy of science worldwide. A tribute to his life and work, by Bernadette Bensaude-Vincent, can be found here.
